The launch of the 2013 Acura ILX sedan left consumers wondering if an ILX coupe was in the works. Our New York Acura dealership was thrilled and anxious at the possibility of an ILX coupe in Brooklyn but the truth is, that’s probably not going to happen. Due to the fact that the ILX is based on the Honda Civic and given Acura’s past coupe history, many will be surprised to hear this news. Not to mention that prior to the launch of the ILX, Honda officials hinted to Edmunds that a coupe version of the ILX was in the works.
A Few Facts:
- A coupe version of the ILX sedan was part of the original product plan for the new nameplate.
- An Acura official refused to comment on any future product plans.
When asked to comment on the current possibility of an ILX coupe, Acura Public Relations Manager Chuck Schifsky responded, “We do not comment on future product or our product planning process for potential models.”
New York Acura enthusiasts, as well as fans of the Acura brand worldwide, have been anticipating an Acura coupe for a few years now. The last Acura coupe was the RSX and that ceased production in 2006. Edmunds doesn’t believe that Acura will move to produce a coupe until ILX sales increase. We’re still rooting on this side!
